Harriet Smith

Dr Harriet Smith is a Research Associate in the School of Geography and Planning, Cardiff University. She was awarded her PhD in visual sociology from Goldsmiths College University of London in 2019. She is an experienced ethnographer and has worked with a wide range of organisations. Harriet has significant professional experience of capacity building for small organisations and fundraising in both Trust and Corporate sectors.

She has worked as an evaluator using traditional methods as well as developing responsive methods tailored to individual environments. Harriet has worked on projects using art practice as a means to engage participants and research subjects in specific problems and learning outcomes. During lockdown she experimented with Go-Pro cameras as a remote research tool. She is interested in working with community groups, small charities and organisations who work with animals. Harriet has previously conducted work with city farms, The Wildlife Trust, and working dog groups including several assistance dog organisations.
